Grok Imagine is the closest to ChatGPT in how you use it: xAI's assistant also generates images and, unlike ChatGPT today, video clips up to 30 seconds. SuperGrok Lite at $10 a month covers images, SuperGrok at $30 adds video, and speed is the main selling point. There has been no free tier for visuals since April 2026. gpt-image-2 handles a headline or a label well; once a poster carries several lines of copy, Ideogram is still the benchmark and keeps legible what other models garble. Free with 10 slow credits a week, then Plus at $20 a month for 1,000 priority credits, the same price as ChatGPT Plus for a tool that only does images. No video, and plan credits expire at the end of each cycle; only top-ups roll over.
Dreamina is ByteDance's app for Seedream and Seedance, tied into CapCut. Its free tier hands out 225 credits a day, one of the most generous we recorded, and covers both images and video, a pairing ChatGPT no longer offers. Paid plans are priced by region, so what you pay depends on your country. If you already edit in CapCut, going from generation to the timeline takes seconds.
Leonardo brings something ChatGPT lacks: custom model training, which locks in a character or a style once and for all. The free tier gives 150 tokens a day, Apprentice costs $12 for 8,500 monthly tokens, and from Artisan ($30) some in-house models generate without spending tokens, in a slower queue. The catalogue centres on its own Lucid and Phoenix models plus Flux, and video remains short.
If you keep ChatGPT Plus for writing and images are a side task, change nothing: the extra cost is zero, and the occasional picture does not justify a second subscription. Switching pays off when the three-hour cap blocks you several times a week, or when a client expects two visual directions instead of one.
