Recraft alternatives: SVG, brand style and cheaper images in 2026

Recraft's free plan makes your images public, with no commercial use. Six alternatives for SVG, brand kits and cheap images, the Recraft model included.

Recraft built its name on one thing almost nobody else did: images that come out as real SVG files, plus custom styles you build by dropping in a few reference images. For logos, icons and brand visuals, that's still a strong pitch.

The pricing page we checked on October 31, 2026 tells the rest. The free plan gives 3 generations per style per day, keeps every image public in the community gallery, gives ownership to Recraft and rules out commercial use. Basic costs $12 a month ($10 billed yearly) for 1,000 credits, and video only comes with Pro at $20. And since October 22, Recraft is no longer alone on vectors: Ideogram released Vector 1.0, its first model that outputs SVG.

We kept six options. Each one answers a specific reason people leave: needing a real vector file elsewhere, keeping a brand consistent across hundreds of visuals, or simply paying less per image. We judged them on SVG output, brand tools, the price of an image and commercial rights. Imaginode is our product and sits first on the list, and we say plainly where it falls short, starting with vectors.

Why look for a Recraft alternative

  • On the free plan, images belong to Recraft, show up in the public gallery and can't be used commercially, and only Recraft's own models are available (recraft.ai/pricing, October 31, 2026).
  • Subscription credits reset every billing cycle with no rollover, and video generation is reserved for Pro at $20 a month.
  • Refunds are at Recraft's discretion: within 30 days, and only if you haven't used credits since paying or used fewer than 30 in total.
  • Trustpilot reviews mention custom styles that fail to build, "something went wrong" errors and an outage of several days in February 2025, while G2 stays far kinder (4.7 out of 5).

Each Recraft alternative in detail

1. Imaginode

Best for the Recraft model, paid per image

$7 with no subscription, or $17/mo

Imaginode runs Recraft V4.1 from 5 credits an image (about $0.06) and Recraft V4.1 Flash at 1 credit, with no Recraft subscription and commercial rights from the first credit. The Style node holds a moodboard and the Reference node reuses a character by name, so a set of visuals keeps the same look, and you can switch to GPT Image 2 or Nano Banana Pro on the same canvas when a poster needs longer text. The limit is clear: Imaginode returns images, not SVG files. If you need a vector you can edit point by point, keep Recraft or try Ideogram Vector.

2. Ideogram

Best for SVG with typography

Free plan, from $20/mo

Ideogram launched Vector 1.0 on October 22, 2026: it turns a prompt into an editable SVG, or traces an existing image into vector shapes, and its typography was already the reason people picked Ideogram. Plus costs $20 a month ($15 billed yearly) with 2,400 priority credits and unlimited slow generations, Pro $60 with 7,500, and pay as you go runs 1 cent a credit. The pricing page doesn't list the credit cost of a vector yet, and early reviews say shapes come out ungrouped, so expect some cleanup in Illustrator or Figma.

3. Adobe Firefly

Best if you already work in Illustrator

Free plan, from $9.99/mo

In the Adobe world, vectors go through Illustrator: its Text to Vector Graphic feature, powered by Firefly, creates editable scenes, subjects and icons from a prompt, with generative credits from your plan. Firefly on its own adds partner models (Google, OpenAI, Flux), Photoshop on the web and Adobe Express Premium. From France on October 31, 2026, Firefly Standard showed at €11.08 a month including VAT for 2,000 credits, and Adobe also offers free daily generations without a plan. Vectors need a plan that includes Illustrator, which costs more than Firefly alone.

4. Canva (Magic Studio)

Best for turning a brand into layouts

Free plan, from $18/mo

Canva won't replace Recraft for drawing a logo, but it's where most brand visuals end up. Brand Kits store your colors, fonts and logos: 1 kit with 3 colors on the free plan, 5 kits on Pro (€110 a year as shown from France on October 31, 2026), 100 on Business. Add 3.6 million templates and a social scheduler. The AI image tools work for quick visuals, with less control over a precise illustration style than Recraft.

5. Lovart

Best for handing off a whole design brief

from $19/mo

Lovart works as a design agent: you ask for a café menu poster or a brand identity in a sentence, and its personal agent, Arti (in beta), can take tasks off your hands while you review the canvas. The Starter plan costs $19 a month ($16 billed yearly) for 2,000 credits plus 100 refresh credits a day, 5 brand kits and a commercial license, with GPT Image 2.5 and Nano Banana Pro among the models. Watch the caps: on Starter, delegated tasks stop at 2 a day, and the Lovart 2.0 launch banner pushes annual plans hard, so read the renewal price before you pay.

6. Krea AI

Best for training your own style

Free plan, from $9/mo

Krea lets you train a LoRA on up to 50 of your images, which gives you a reusable house style the way Recraft's custom styles do. The free plan gives 100 units a day with access to all image models, and Basic costs $9 a month ($5 billed yearly) for 5,000 units, with a commercial license on paid plans. Krea also has real-time generation and a node editor. It outputs images, not SVG.

How to choose

Start with the file you need. If the deliverable must scale to a sign or go to a cutting machine, you need a true SVG: Recraft, Ideogram Vector, or Illustrator if you're already paying Adobe. For social posts, ads, mockups and web banners, a high-resolution image does the job, and that opens up every tool on this list.

Then look at consistency. Recraft's custom styles have three answers elsewhere: a LoRA trained on Krea, the Style and Reference nodes on Imaginode, and Brand Kits on Canva for the layout side. Test the same brief on two of them before you commit.

Last, compare the price of an image rather than the price of a plan. On Imaginode, Recraft V4.1 Flash costs 1 credit and V4.1 from 5, and the calculator works out a whole batch. The pricing page lists the plans and the top-ups, whose credits never expire. For text-heavy visuals, our guide to AI image generators that handle text goes further.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a free alternative to Recraft?

Several. Adobe Firefly gives free daily generations without a plan, Krea gives 100 units a day, and Canva's free plan includes one Brand Kit. Imaginode gives 15 credits at sign-up, enough to test Recraft V4.1 Flash, not to run a project. Check the commercial rights of each free tier before using the images for a client.

Which AI tools generate real SVG vectors?

Recraft and, since October 22, 2026, Ideogram with Vector 1.0. Adobe Illustrator's Text to Vector Graphic also creates editable vectors if your plan includes Illustrator. Imaginode doesn't export SVG: its Recraft models return images.

Can I use the Recraft model without a Recraft subscription?

Yes. Imaginode runs Recraft V4.1 and V4.1 Flash per generation, with the price shown before each click. Developers can also use the Recraft API, billed in prepaid API units.

Are images from Recraft's free plan OK for commercial use?

No. According to Recraft's pricing page, free plan images belong to Recraft, are public in the community gallery and aren't licensed for commercial use. Paid plans give you ownership and commercial rights, which you keep after canceling.
