Choose filesNothing is uploaded: everything happens in your browser
Converting a JPG to PNG is useful when a website, an app or an application form requires PNG, or before editing the image several times without losing quality at each save. The conversion adds no detail: the PNG keeps the image exactly as it is in the JPG.
How to convert JPG to PNG
- 1Drop your JPG files in the box, or click to pick them. You can add several at once.
- 2PNG is already selected. Open the settings if you want to change the quality, the size or the background.
- 3Download each file, or everything at once as a .zip. Nothing was uploaded: the conversion happened on your device.
The formats
JPG
The universal photo format. It compresses with loss, which gives light files that open everywhere: browsers, phones, software, printers. It has no transparency, and each new save loses a little quality.
PNG
The web's lossless format. It keeps every pixel identical and supports transparency, which makes it the format of logos, screenshots and illustrations. For a photo, it often weighs three to five times more than a JPG.
Your files stay with you
The conversion runs in your browser, with your device's decoders. No file is uploaded, no copy is kept, and nobody but you sees your photos or videos. You can check it in the Network tab of your browser's developer tools: none of your files goes out.
Frequently asked questions
Will the PNG have a transparent background?
No: the conversion keeps the photo's background. For a transparent background, the subject must be cut out, which the AI tool suggested below does.
Does the quality improve?
No, it stays that of the JPG. PNG only stops it from getting worse. To gain sharpness, you need an AI upscale.
Is the converter really free?
Yes, with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on the number of files. The conversion runs on your device and costs us nothing, so there is nothing to charge you for.
Are my files sent anywhere?
No. They are read and converted in your browser, then saved straight to your device. No server receives them.
Is there a maximum size?
The limit is your device's memory. Photos and audio files go through without trouble; for a video of several gigabytes, a computer does better than a phone.
Does it work on a phone?
Yes, on iPhone and Android, in Safari, Chrome or Firefox. For video, an up-to-date browser is needed: it provides the decoders being used.
What next, with AI
Change a photo background with AI
Import a photo, describe the new setting: the AI cuts out the subject and places it on a white studio background or in a fully styled scene, without touching the product.
