Nothing is uploaded: everything happens in your browser

An image that is too heavy slows a website down, blocks a form or an email. Drop your JPG, PNG or WebP files: each one is re-encoded in its own format at the chosen quality, and you see the size saved. PNGs go through a palette reduction, like the best-known compressors, which often divides them by three with no visible difference.

How to compress

  1. 1Drop your files in the box, or click to pick them. They keep their format.
  2. 2Set the quality and, if needed, the maximum size. The lower the quality, the lighter the file.
  3. 3Compare the size before and after, then download. If a file was already optimized, you get the original back.

The formats

JPG

The universal photo format. It compresses with loss, which gives light files that open everywhere: browsers, phones, software, printers. It has no transparency, and each new save loses a little quality.

PNG

The web's lossless format. It keeps every pixel identical and supports transparency, which makes it the format of logos, screenshots and illustrations. For a photo, it often weighs three to five times more than a JPG.

WebP

Google's image format, widely used by websites to load faster. At equal quality it weighs about a third less than a JPG, and it supports transparency and animation. Some older software and a few platforms still do not accept it.

Your files stay with you

The conversion runs in your browser, with your device's decoders. No file is uploaded, no copy is kept, and nobody but you sees your photos or videos. You can check it in the Network tab of your browser's developer tools: none of your files goes out.

Frequently asked questions

How much size can I save?

Often 40 to 70% on a JPG or PNG straight out of a camera or an app. If an image is already optimized, the tool gives you the original back rather than a heavier file.

Can I also reduce the dimensions?

Yes, with Maximum size in the settings: a 4000-pixel photo reduced to 1920 weighs four times less and stays sharp on a screen.

Is the converter really free?

Yes, with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on the number of files. The conversion runs on your device and costs us nothing, so there is nothing to charge you for.

Are my files sent anywhere?

No. They are read and converted in your browser, then saved straight to your device. No server receives them.

Is there a maximum size?

The limit is your device's memory. Photos and audio files go through without trouble; for a video of several gigabytes, a computer does better than a phone.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes, on iPhone and Android, in Safari, Chrome or Firefox. For video, an up-to-date browser is needed: it provides the decoders being used.
