Nothing is uploaded: everything happens in your browser

The first transcription downloads the speech recognition model once, then your browser keeps it: about 75 MB in standard accuracy, 240 MB in high accuracy. The video itself never leaves your device.

Get everything said in a video as text: an interview, a class, a recorded meeting, a YouTube video you filmed. Speech recognition (Whisper, an openly released OpenAI model) runs in your browser: the video goes to no server, and the text comes in paragraphs, ready to proofread.

How to transcribe

  1. 1Drop your video or recording in the box, or click to pick it.
  2. 2Choose the format: plain text (TXT), SRT or VTT subtitles. The spoken language is detected automatically; you can also pick it in the settings.
  3. 3The first time, the speech recognition model downloads once and for all. After that, everything happens on your device: download the text or the subtitles.

The formats

MP4

The universal video format. In H.264 with AAC audio, it plays on every phone, computer, TV and social network. It is the format to aim for when you do not know where the video will be watched.

MOV

Apple's video format, used by iPhones and QuickTime. The content is often the same as an MP4 (H.264 or HEVC), but Windows, some websites and many editing and sharing tools refuse it.

WebM

The web's open video format, in VP9 or AV1 with Opus audio. It is light and plays in Chrome, Firefox and Edge, but less well on iPhones, in editing software and on some social networks.

TXT

Plain text, readable everywhere: the content of the recording, in paragraphs, with no formatting. Paste it into a document, an email, an article or an AI tool.

Your files stay with you

The conversion runs in your browser, with your device's decoders. No file is uploaded, no copy is kept, and nobody but you sees your photos or videos. You can check it in the Network tab of your browser's developer tools: none of your files goes out.

Frequently asked questions

In which languages?

About a hundred, including English, French, Spanish, German, Portuguese, Italian, Arabic, Japanese and Chinese. The language is detected automatically; if the video mixes languages, pick the main one in the settings.

How long does it take?

On a recent computer, often less than the length of the video, longer on a phone. The first time, add the model download, about 75 MB, then kept by the browser. Always proofread proper names and technical terms.

Is the converter really free?

Yes, with no sign-up, no watermark and no limit on the number of files. The conversion runs on your device and costs us nothing, so there is nothing to charge you for.

Are my files sent anywhere?

No. They are read and converted in your browser, then saved straight to your device. No server receives them.

Is there a maximum size?

The limit is your device's memory. Photos and audio files go through without trouble; for a video of several gigabytes, a computer does better than a phone.

Does it work on a phone?

Yes, on iPhone and Android, in Safari, Chrome or Firefox. For video, an up-to-date browser is needed: it provides the decoders being used.

What next, with AI

Dub a video with AI, lips in sync

A video where someone speaks, a new voice in another language: Sync Lipsync 3 re-times the lips to the new text. The same shot in English and in Spanish, without reshooting. The whole workflow is visible without an account.
